What to Do When Your Car Stops on the Road in Dubai?

Car care

A car may get stalled on the road due to various reasons, such as engine failure or electrical system failure, overheating of the vehicle due to a malfunctioning radiator, or a weak battery. If the car has run out of gas, nearby fueling stations might be able to refill it. A punctured tire can also be the cause of a brake failure. A vehicle breakdown can be a harrowing experience for any car owner, but now is not the time to panic but to seek help and resolve the issue. You may seek police assistance by calling 999.

Wait patiently for the roadside assistance to reach you, and stay calm. If the breakdown happens at night, make use of the emergency flashlights and do not wander too far from the vehicle.

Here are some tips for handling car failure on the road:

  • Find a Safe Spot: Pull the car to a safe spot and switch on the hazard lights. Use a parking brake to prevent the car from rolling, especially on an inclined surface. Keep a wooden log or brick in front of the tires, if required.
  • Get Attention:  Keeping a reflective triangle on the vehicle helps alert other motorists and passersby who may provide some help.
  • Security of Passengers: Ensure safety and security of co-passengers. A vehicle may be hired to take them to the destination with luggage.
  • Vehicle Inspection: Ensure that there are no oil leaks or fluid leaks under the hood. Inspect the fuse box, battery cables, and spark plug if tools are available. Never attempt to check the parts or components with the ignition on, as the engine will be hot. If the problem is due to a weak battery, a mechanic may be called to jumpstart the battery, and a flat tire may be replaced with a spare tire.

Roadside failures are preventable with adequate service and maintenance. The UAE government may impose fines of up to AED 1000 under several parts of the legislation, including driving a vehicle that does not meet safety and security standards (AED 500) and operating a vehicle that is unfit for driving (AED 500). In addition, car drivers can get 6 black points for vehicle failure on the road.

To avoid roadside breakdowns and emergencies with your vehicle, you must do regular car maintenance. Regular check-ups and servicing can help your vehicle stay in good condition and meet all safety criteria.
