Dubai, the UAE’s main trade hub, is getting ready for the New Year. The roadways would be congested before New Year’s Eve, particularly in popular spots like Downtown Dubai, the Burj Khalifa, and the Palm Jumeirah.
Negotiating the Traffic
Roads may be congested; road closures and traffic diversions are common. Hence, plan your route ahead. Look for notifications from the Road and Transport Authority (RTA).
If possible, avoid peak hour traffic between 10 AM and 2 PM.
GPS or Google Maps may help find alternative routes to prevent rush hour traffic.
If you want to navigate traffic without offending others, you must be patient and accept delays. Follow the rules and drive safely to enjoy the incredible light shows, fireworks, dance, music, and shopping. Taking public transit, such as metro trams and buses, or using car rental services like Careem or Uber, may be helpful at rush hour. Avoid driving while under the influence of alcohol. If you plan on drinking, consider hiring a driver or employing a vehicle service.
Car Maintenance
Keep the car in good running condition to prevent unexpected breakdowns or repairs.
- Regular Service: If the car is due for regular car service, you can’t afford to miss it ahead of New Year’s Eve.
Vehicle Maintenance Checklist
- Oil Change: If the oil has become dirty, it should be changed so as to prevent engine damage. Or top up to the required level.
- Fluid Top-ups: Ensure that all fluids, such as coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid, are sufficient.
- Battery: Check voltage, terminal corrosion, and electrical circuits to prevent unexpected failures.
- Tyres: Ensure sufficient tread depth, tyre inflation, and remember to do tyre rotation to prevent uneven wear.
- First Aid Kit and Tools: The car should have a first aid kit containing bandages, antiseptic solutions, gauze, and cotton.
Have jumper cables for battery repair and basic tools such as a jack, lug wrench, and screwdrivers. Have a flashlight with extra batteries for working in darkness.
Regular car servicing includes an inspection of engine oil and fluids, brakes, suspension, batteries, tyres, and other components. With a little planning and awareness, you may have a memorable and enjoyable New Year’s Eve in Dubai.
As Dubai prepares for its stunning New Year’s Eve events, you’ll need to plan ahead of time to prevent traffic congestion. Sheikh Zayed Road, Burj Khalifa Street, and Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard will close at 4 p.m. on December 31. To make things easier, consider hopping on the Dubai Metro, which will run continuously from 5 AM on December 31 until midnight on January 1. And if public transport isn’t your thing, no worries; there will be 29,000 taxis available to help you get around the city.
